If you don’t want to leave your spouse or roommate in the dust with your smart new doorbell, here’s how to share Ring Doorbell access with the people in your home.

If you just have the RIng Doorbell, the only way you know if someone came to your door and rang the doorbell is through a phone notification–unless you get the add-on Chime device or hook up the Ring unit to your existing doorbell’s wiring. If not, you’ll be the only one who knows that someone rang the doorbell, but you can easily share this information with other people who live in the same house.

To start, open up the Ring app on your smartphone and tap on your Ring Doorbell unit in the top-left corner of the screen.

Tap on “Shared Users”.

Tap on “Add User”.

Type in the email address of the person you want to give access to and then hit “OK”.

After that, their email address will appear in the list and it will say “pending invite” underneath, which says that they were sent an invite but have not yet responded to it.

They will receive their invite in the form of an email, which will include a link to where they’ll accept the invite. Have them click on that link.

They’ll be prompted to create a Ring account and they’ll type in their email address and create a password. Then click “Next”.

After that they can close out of the browser window and then install the Ring app on their own phone. After they download the app and open it up, tap on “Log In”.

Then have them enter in their email address and password that they just created and then hit “OK”.

Once they’re logged in, they’ll now have access to the Ring Doorbell and will be able to receive notifications, as well as see a history of who came to the door. They won’t, however, be able to change any settings with the unit.
